Performance by an actor in a leading role – George Clooney
Performance by an actor in a supporting role – Tom Wilkinson

George Clooney Picked To Be A UN Messenger

He’s been picked to be a UN Messenger 0f Peace. What that means is he’ll help promote global awareness on some of the UN’s most important missions. He’ll become the ninth UN Peace Envoy.

One of the reasons why he got picked, for more then four year’s he’s been campaigning for millions caught up in a brutal conflict in Darfur.

The popular actor’s brought in millions in funding for the war torn country.

January 16, 2008 — Finally, an awards show with stars.

The red carpet was back in business at Cipriani in Midtown, last night and stars such as George Clooney and his girlfriend Sarah Larson were on hand for the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures gala.

Unlike Sunday’s Golden Globes, the event wasn’t televised, so there were no picketing writers.

Clooney was there to pick up his Best Actor award for his turn in “Michael Clayton.” Julie Christie won Best Actress for playing an Alzheimer’s patient in “Away From Her.”

The Coen brothers’ “No Country
for Old Men” was named Best Picture.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones also lent their star power, as did Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner.
